This Carmel Valley home had a dated tan and beige color scheme that had run its course. The shingle-style siding, garage doors, trim, and front entry were all blending together - nothing was popping, nothing was pulling the eye in. The homeowners wanted something cleaner and more coastal without going too bold.
We took the whole exterior in a brighter, lighter direction. Fresh white and soft gray tones across the shingle siding, trim, garage doors, and entry surround completely changed the feel of the home. The front door went deep black, which gave the entry the kind of contrast and weight it was missing before. We also added black shutters on the upper windows to carry that contrast throughout the facade.
On a shingle-style home like this, getting a clean, consistent finish takes real patience. All those individual shingle edges need full coverage without buildup - you can't rush the prep or the application. We paid close attention to the trim work around the arched windows, balcony railing, and entry arch to make sure every transition was sharp.
The difference between the before and after here is significant. What was a forgettable tan exterior is now a crisp, modern coastal home that holds its own on the street. The black accents - door, shutters, light fixtures - give it character without overcomplicating the palette.
This is the kind of exterior painting work we do regularly throughout Carmel Valley and the broader San Diego area. Getting the color selection right, executing clean lines on detailed siding like this, and making the overall scheme feel cohesive - that's where experience really shows.
